Doing Something for the Greater Good—Join the Rally for Depression Awareness

“When you learn, teach. When you get, give,” Maya Angelo

This premise is very simple. Certainly, as clinicians, social workers, educators, and mental health care advocates, there is something that motivates us to do more and give more of ourselves. Believing in something bigger and being a part of something bigger is what motivated Steve Curran to form The Walk to Washington, a national pep rally to ensure that depression awareness has a national and focused voice.

Steve knows personally that mental illness is just as painful and life changing as any physical wound or disease. Yet the stigma associated with mental illness often prevents many from seeking help and getting treated.

We invite you to join Screening for Mental Health and The Walk to Washington to fight back against stigma and raise awareness of depression and other mental illnesses—by signing a petition, becoming a virtual walker, or becoming a screening site.

The Walk kicks off August 14, 2010 in St. Louis, MO. The 50-day cross-country trek spanning 850 miles from St. Louis, MO to Washington, DC, features 24 rally cities along the way. The final rally will be held in Washington, DC on National Depression Screening Day, October 7, 2010. If you are a community-based organization located in or near one of the 25 rally cities—see below for map and list of cities—register today for National Depression Screening Day and join us and thousands of others in doing something for the greater good.

Please contact Sara Herman at Screening for Mental Health, 781-591-5233.
