Sara Herman, the new community and workplace program coordinator at Screening
for Mental Health, Inc., (SMH) graduated from UMass Amherst with a bachelor of
science in resource economics. Sara has been involved in several nonprofits in
the Boston area, including a volunteer position as the director of external
relations for the Young Alumni Volunteer Association. She says, “I am excited
to start my role as coordinator just in time for the 20th National Depression
Screening Day. I am eager to connect with community organizations and
workplaces to discuss better ways to encourage their members to assess their
mental well-being.”
Joining Sara are Alma Petrovic, and Kathryn Quirk. Alma, SMH’s
director of programs, holds a master’s degree in public health from Boston
University, and a medical degree from the University of Sarajevo School of
Medicine in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She has more than ten years of
experience working in the mental health and medical sectors. Most recently, Ms.
Petrovic worked as the director of the public health initiatives department at
Whittier Street Health Center in Boston, and as a medical manager for Lowell
Community Health Center in Lowell, MA.
Kathryn Quirk, the marketing and communications manager, brings more than 12
years of public relations experience to SMH. Kathryn earned her master’s in
counseling psychology in 2007 and spent two years working in the Boston Public
Schools and in an outpatient setting. Her fieldwork in counseling combined with
her background in communications gives her a strong understanding and insight
into the mental health field.
Sara, Alma, and Kathryn, look forward to connecting with mental health
professionals at community organizations and workplaces across the country.
