In the months leading up to the 20th anniversary of National Depression Screening Day® (NDSD), both old friends and new supporters did their part by emailing, posting, writing, blogging and sharing information about how to register to host an in-person screening event or offer online depression screening to their community. The responses poured in and like-minded organizations from across the country, including the American Hospital Association, American Counseling Association, Anxiety Disorders Association of America, and Families for Depression Awareness spoke out on our behalf! We witnessed a 25% increase in registered NDSD sites since 2009.
In the weeks, days and even hours before NDSD, we asked everyone to take a depression screening. We were thrilled when groups like The Breast Cancer Site, Goodwill, Missouri Suicide Prevention Project, Recovery Support, and The Trevor Project posted messages to their fans on Facebook or Twitter, drawing instant attention to our website, www.HelpYourselfHelpOthers.org and enabling thousands of people to either find a screening site or take an anonymous online screening.
