Tip of the Month:
Conduct a Local Publicity Campaign!
  • Take advantage of the publicity samples in your Event Manual.
  • Make sure your site is listed correctly on the online Site Locator Services, and on the toll-free number (800) 405-9200. Check the date, time, location, and phone number for accuracy. Train your staff to answer calls about your screening day, and to tell regular callers about this service you are offering.
  • Ask a local grocer to put a flyer advertising your NASD site in each customers bag.
  • Be creative and use specific news angles, like how alcohol affects heart disease and cancer, or specific populations like older adults and minorities.

2002 Site Success Story

There are thousands of individuals that have been affected by the misuse of alcohol by their family, friends, or themselves. There are thousands more that are simply interested in the effects of alcohol on their health. In order to reach these individuals and notify them about National Alcohol Screening Day and our services, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago used a variety of advertising including advertising in church bulletins several weeks before screening day, email, and our agencys radio program. The great turnout on NASD was proof that these methods worked.
