Setting up your online screening Program

IMPORTANT: Before you allow your students access to the screening, you must customize your site. If the site is accessed before you customize it, students will not receive the referral information to your health or counseling center and will not know where to go for help.

1. Colleges will be able to customize:
a) The college welcome page (mandatory)
b) The college referral information (mandatory)
c) The college referral web address (optional)
d) The privacy policy (optional: Screening for Mental has a comprehensive privacy policy on the screening website therefore it is not necessary to develop an additional policy. To view the SMH privacy policy, go to: www.mentalhealthscreening.org/screening/privacy_policy.asp)
e) Additional demographic questions (please note: SMH asks key demographic information including: age, gender, year in college (freshman, junior, etc.), residence (on campus, off campus), ethnic/racial group, and whether or not a student is accessing the module as part of freshman orientation. It is recommended that you only add additional demographic questions if there is essential information you need to obtain from students.
ADMINISTRATION MODULE PASSWORD: (you should have received this in the mail)
(Please be sure to file this information in a safe place, as you will need it every time you want to run reports.)

Section Two: Sample Text to Customize your Site

You will need to enter your college specific information into the boxes. IMPORTANT: Please try to type up the text you wish to enter beforehand as the system times out after 20 minutes of downtime and will bring you back to a log in page. This is done for security reasons. If the system does time out, please log in again and complete the customizing process.

Optional Questions:
If you submit an optional question and then decide you would like to delete that question, you must contact SMH to delete the question.

Section Three: Placing a link to the screening on your colleges
website or intranet

1. To facilitate log on to the system, you can have your colleges Webmaster place a link on your colleges website or intranet with the keyword embedded in the link. When a student clicks on that link, they will NOT need to enter in a password to access the screening and will be taken directly to the welcome page.

2. To embed the keyword in a link on your colleges web page or intranet, give the following information to the Webmaster:

https://gold-barracuda-130963.hostingersite.com/screening/login.asp?keyword=your_keyword

4. Select the type of report you wish to run (i.e., depression, manic-depression, manic-depression threshold, alcohol, eating disorders depending on the program(s) for which your school registered) and click the Submit button. (Note: if you receive the message, There are no submissions yet, please try again later. Please select the browsers Back button to go back to the previous page no students have taken that particular screening yet.)

You will then see the following screen:
5. Click the type of report you wish to run (summary or chart).
6. Select the time frame for when you want to run the report (Note: the reports must span at least seven days) and click on the Generate Report button.
7. Once you have generated the report you can click on the file menu and print the report.
8. To print summary reports in a printer friendly format, copy the report and paste it into your word processing software (i.e., Word or WordPerfect). Then manually insert page breaks where you would like them. If you need assistance with this, please contact your computer or information systems staff.

Section Five: Modifications

Please know that we are always trying to improve the usability of the online screening. We are in the process of developing new reports that analyze the relationships between the scores on the depression screening, manic-depression screening and manic-depression threshold questions. If you have suggestions for improvements, please feel free to email us at [email protected]

Section Six: Liability Issues

Screening for Mental Healths programs are educational initiatives and all screenings are informational, not diagnostic. The online screenings, like the paper and pencil screenings held on our national screening days, are conducted anonymously, and diagnoses and treatment recommendations are not provided. Participating in screening programs may actually reduce liability, according to the liability insurance providers (see Student Mental Health Screening: A Risk Management Perspective, by Ann H. Franke, Esq., Vice President for Education and Risk Management, United Educators Insurance, in your Procedure Manual).
