Telephone Screening Program Trends

Depression Screening

  • 73% of callers score positive for depression.
  • 80% of those who score positive score in the mild-to-moderate range
  • Of those who score positive, nearly 90% are not in treatment at the time of the call
  • 96% of callers say the program is at least a little useful
  • 87% of callers are employees (the remaining callers are family members and retirees)
  • Among female callers, 75% score positive for depression. Of those that score positive, 80% score in the mild-to-moderate range.
  • Among male callers, 70% score positive for depression. Of those that score positive, 80% score in the mild-to-moderate range.

These results indicate that the program is reaching its intended audience of individuals with untreated depression, providing early identification of depression in the workplace.


Alcohol Screening

  • Nearly 70% of callers score positive for some type of alcohol problem
  • Of those that score positive, 96% score in the harmful/hazardous or harmful/dependence range
  • Of those who score harmful and above, 95.4% are not in alcohol treatment at the time of the call
  • 94% of callers say the program is at least a little useful
  • 81% of callers are employees (the remaining callers are family members and retirees)
  • Among male callers, 72% score positive for an alcohol problem. Of those males that score positive, 98% score in the harmful or above range.
  • Among female callers, 61% score positive for an alcohol problem. Of those females that score positive, 93% score in the harmful or above range.

These results indicate that the program is reaching its intended audience of individuals with untreated alcohol problems in the workplace. The screening identifies those individuals who may have a serious problem with alcohol and most in need of treatment.
