Millions of men and women struggle with disordered eating. While 1 in 200 adults
have experienced full-blown anorexia nervosa, at least 1 in 20 (1 in 10 teen girls!)
have exhibited some key symptoms. Many suffer from the effects but never address
the issue because they don’t fully meet the diagnostic criteria. In their book by
the same name, Dr. Jennifer Thomas and Jenni Schaefer call this once overlooked
category almost anorexic. Five symptoms of almost anorexia can include:
1. Frequent Weight Changes: Weight shifts due to intentional attempts
to drop pounds
2. Frequent Restriction: Regularly restricting food by amount or variety
3. Mild or Infrequent Compensatory Behaviors: Trying to “make up for”
calories consumed
4. Mild or Infrequent Binge Eating: Eating large amounts of food while
feeling out of control
5. Negative Body Image: Interferes with living life to the fullest
Drawing on the latest research, this webinar combines a psychologist’s experience
with a patient’s personal recovery story to assist you in detecting and preventing
eating disorders on campus. Further, you will learn proven strategies to help those
who struggle to find a full and lasting recovery.
