National Eating Disorders
Screening Program Results |
Thank you and congratulations to all of our sites and supporters who
participated in the 2007 National Eating Disorders Screening Program® (NEDSP).
This year 435 sites registered for NEDSP 2007 – our highest
level of participation ever!
-
A projected 16,935
students were screened at NEDSP campus events
-
14.5% of screenings were recommended for follow-up services
In addition, the NEDSP Online Screening Program yielded significant outreach
results:
-
15,829
student screenings were completed through the NEDSP online screening program to
date
-
62%
of the screenings completed online during NEDAW were found positive for
symptoms consistent with an eating disorder
-
96%
of those screenings found positive were not in treatment at the time of
screening,
-
34% of those found positive planned to seek further
help/evaluation
(an increase from 2006)
Compelling feedback from our sites indicates the importance of screening for
and raising awareness of eating disorders and body image issues on college
campuses: This year we chose to promote positive body image .. because
poor body image often precedes eating disorders and because a larger population
of students struggle with negative body image than disordered eating behaviors.
The title “Celebrate Your Body Day” was also chosen in an effort to attract and
include more male students in this screening event…CAPS staff members agreed
that significantly more male students (perhaps around 40% of the total)
participated in the body image activity this year!

We LOVE your program and materials. We’re sending the info on the Female
Athlete Triad, the Anorexia and Bulimia Primer and the exercise brochure to our
women’s sports coaches as outreach. Great materials!
