Military Pathways is an initiative that offers anonymous, self-directed mental health and alcohol screenings online. It is available to family members and service personnel in all branches including the National Guard and Reserves.
It is a core value to provide steadfast support to our troops and their families, particularly in relation to deployment. This program is a natural extension of ongoing efforts by the Department of Defense to reach families with the information they need about services available to them. It is a proactive approach to help individuals identify their own individual symptoms and access assistance, hopefully before a problem becomes serious.
Military Pathways is provided by the nonprofit organization Screening for Mental Health, Inc, with funding from the Department of Defense and with support from the National Center for Telehealth & Technology (T2health.org).
The program is accessible 24/7 online at www.MilitaryMentalHealth.org Military Pathways also has a limited number of family resiliency and youth suicide prevention materials available to the military community. Installations, units and military schools that are interested in the materials can register by visiting www.MilitaryPathways.com. All materials are free, but the number of kits is limited so it is first come, first serve.
Anonymous, mental health self-assessments are available for posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder and alcohol use.
The self-assessment program provides information on how to obtain services through military health and veterans benefits such as TRICARE, Military OneSource and Vet Centers.
According to an evaluation study of the online self-assessments, over 70% said they would be likely to seek further information about a specific mental health or alcohol use concern as a result of using the online self-assessment.
