Conduct Screenings

Primary/Specialty Care Outreach
Now, more than ever, individuals are seeking mental health care from their primary care providers. NDSD gives primary care providers the tools and educational resources to effectively screen their patients for the mental health disorders that so often occur with and exacerbate physical health problems.

The Primary/Specialty Care Outreach allows clinicians to screen patients during regular appointments. Primary and specialty care providers are in a prime position to make a difference in their patients’ lives. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force found good evidence that screening improves the accurate identification of depressed patients in primary care settings and that treatment of depressed adults identified in primary care settings decreases clinical morbidity. (Annals of Internal Medicine. 2002;136:760-764). The Primary/Specialty Care kit contains a brief screening tool effective for busy, primary care settings.

If you are a clinician interested in screening your regularly scheduled patients, register for the NDSD Primary/Specialty Care Program.

Healthcare Response
Offers national health and behavioral health organizations interactive screening for depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder for their members. This customized program includes a telephone screening line and online screening module that can be integrated into an organization’s existing phone and/or website. The program includes reports of aggregate, demographic data that help organizations document disease management initiatives. All programs are customized with organization-specific welcome and referral messages, directing members to existing treatment resources for mood and anxiety disorders.
